About Mercy Health Initiative

Established in 2015, MHI is a non-profit NGO dedicated to alleviating human suffering and promoting sustainable development in East and Horn of Africa.

Geographical Coverage

Operating in East and Horn of Africa, with focus on Lower Juba region including Kismayo, Afmadow, Dobley, and Badhaadhe districts.

Target Communities

Serving pastoralists, farming communities, agro-pastoralists, fishing communities, urban and rural populations, returnees and IDPs.

Partnerships

Collaborating with UN agencies, international NGOs, local communities, and diaspora organizations to maximize impact.

Our Mission

Mercy Health Initiative seeks to address health issues affecting the communities of the region through emergency programming in health, water and sanitation, nutrition, protection, livelihood, outreach programs and training.

Our Vision

To endeavor humanitarian needs in the region as a whole to achieve self-sufficiency for the necessities such as public health services, basic education, poverty, cohesive and peaceful society that is capable of deciding their own future.

Our Core Programs

We address multiple sectors to provide comprehensive humanitarian assistance and community development.

Health & Nutrition

Primary health care, maternal care, immunization programs, HIV/AIDS awareness, and mental health services.

WASH

Water, sanitation and hygiene programs including well construction, latrine installation, and hygiene education.

Peace Building

Conflict resolution, reconciliation workshops, youth engagement, and cross-border peace initiatives.

Food Security

Agricultural support, irrigation projects, seed distribution, and livelihood enhancement programs.

Education & Training

Vocational training, youth resource centers, health staff training, and community education programs.

Protection

Gender-based violence prevention, human rights advocacy, legal aid, and child protection services.
