Established in 2015, we are a non-profit NGO dedicated to alleviating human suffering and promoting sustainable development in East and Horn of Africa.
MERCY HEALTH INITIATIVE is a not-for-profit making and Non-governmental organization which was established in 2015 in response to immense suffering caused by protracted civil strife in 1991. It is non-political and non-profit making organization focusing on participation and partnerships thus contributing to the relief of human suffering by offering appropriate solutions to the humanitarian catastrophe in the region particularly on health affairs.
It was registered on 2016 with the goal of providing free preventive and curative service, obstetric services to women, ante-natal and post-natal care, family planning services, maternity services, mother and child care, Mental Health service, humanitarian relief and lifesaving services, protect, livelihood and education to communities in the region.
MERCY HEALTH INITIATIVE works to provide relief emergency and other humanitarian support to the affected populations in Somalia for health intervention to reduce their vulnerability and malnutrition. The organization serves different groups including pastoralists, farming, agro-pastoralists, fishing, urban, rural, returnees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
In Somalia, MERCY operates in 4 districts namely Kismayo, Afmadow, Dobley and Badhaadhe in (Lower Juba), with intention of expanding to east and horn of Africa. The core broad areas of focus are Livelihood and Food Security, Health, Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Nutrition, Protection, Shelter & nonfood items (NFIs) and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Education.
Mercy Health Initiative seeks to address health issues affecting the communities of the region through emergency programming in health, water and sanitation, nutrition, protection, livelihood, outreach programs and training.
To endeavor humanitarian needs in the region as a whole to achieve self-sufficiency for the necessities such as public health services, basic education, poverty, cohesive and peaceful society that is capable of deciding their own future.

Consisting of five members (3 males and 2 females), the board is the decision-making arm of the organization charged with networking, fundraising, overseeing and other important roles.
Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed leads the organization with over 8 years of experience in humanitarian work and community development.
20 permanent staff in all existing offices and over 40 contractual staff charged with actual implementation of projects and maintenance of secretarial activities.
